Bí Kíp "Phá Đảo" Văn hóa và Đạo đức trong Kinh doanh Quốc tế

Hệ thống hóa cách văn hóa ảnh hưởng đến kinh doanh quốc tế, các mô hình so sánh văn hóa, văn hóa tổ chức, động lực xuyên văn hóa và ra quyết định đạo đức trong MNC.

Hướng Dẫn Ôn Tập Hiệu Quả

✓So sánh tương tác: phân biệt EPRG, Hofstede, Trompenaars, văn hóa tổ chức và cách tiếp cận đạo đức.

Chương 1: Culture and Cross-Cultural Management

Mục tiêu trọng tâm: Hiểu bản chất/lớp/yếu tố quyết định của văn hóa; tác động đến kinh doanh; phản ứng xuyên văn hóa; EPRG và standardization–adaptation.

1. What is culture?

Đặt nền bằng definitions, values/norms và quan hệ society–nation-state.

🧭

🏙️

Objective vs Subjective

Objective: công cụ, đường sá, chương trình TV, kiến trúc và hiện vật vật chất. Subjective: norms, values, ideas, customs, assumptions.
👥

Society

🌐

Society ↔ Nation-state

2. Culture has layers

Khám phá 5 metaphor/representation với đủ 5 nhóm.

Điểm chung cần nhớ: biểu hiện dễ quan sát nằm ở ngoài/bề mặt; values, beliefs và assumptions nằm sâu hơn.

3. Determinants of culture

Social structure: individual/group & stratification

Group: association of two or more people with a shared identity who interact in structured ways based on common expectations. Western societies are described as focusing more on the individual while many Asian societies focus more on the group.

Social stratification: hierarchical categories/social strata. Societies differ in mobility between strata and the importance of strata in business contacts. A caste system is closed; a class system is open and position can change through achievement or luck.

Class consciousness: people perceive themselves by class background; where high, cross-class work relationships can be prescribed and strained.

Hệ thống chính trị và kinh tế — tóm tắt

Political system: the system of government in a nation, assessed by collectivism ↔ individualism and democracy ↔ totalitarianism.

Economic systems: market economy, command economy, mixed economy. Các nhóm chính gồm: market = private ownership and supply/demand; command = government planning/state ownership; mixed = elements of both.

4. Why culture matters in business

Cultural difference→

Different frames of reference can change interpretation, behavior, negotiation and even handshake meaning.

Poor cross-cultural literacy→

Doanh nghiệp thiếu hiểu biết về văn hóa sẽ khó thành công; nhà quản lý có thể tuyển dụng nhân sự bản địa hoặc luân chuyển quản lý quốc tế.

Culture→

Can influence technology transfer, managerial attitudes/ideology, business-government relations, rewards, risk, time horizon and formality.

Cross-cultural literacy

Hand gestures

Cùng một cử chỉ “OK” có ý nghĩa khác nhau: đồng ý ở Mỹ, tiền bạc ở Nhật Bản, “con số không” ở Pháp, xúc phạm ở Brazil; ngón tay cái hướng lên là tốt ở Mỹ nhưng thô lỗ ở Tây Phi; dấu V đổi nghĩa theo hướng xoay tay ở Anh.

Handshake

U.S. firm; Asian generally gentle, with Korean exception noted as firm; British soft; French light and quick.

Culture change

Culture evolves over time; value-system change can be slow/painful, globalization brings cultural change, and economic progress is linked with shifts toward individualism.

5. Responding to cultural difference

Phân biệt frame of reference và ba phản ứng với thực hành địa phương.

Face-to-face→

Meetings, communication, negotiation → language, knowledge/expertise, behavior, rituals.

Company-to-company→

Contracts, alliances, JVs, M&A → organization, hierarchy/decision making, labour relations, attitudes toward work.

Company-to-customer→

Marketing (4Ps), new product development → consumer preferences and “quality” of demand.

Objectives of cross-cultural management
  1. Increase company success in foreign markets by operating efficiently.
  2. Adapt corporate management processes to cultural differences in international markets.
  3. Prevent errors and conflicts in international cooperation.

Ethnocentrism

Đánh giá văn hóa khác từ vị trí văn hóa của chính mình; quản lý cần cảnh giác với niềm tin rằng văn hóa của mình vượt trội.

Cultural relativism

Which response is this?

Resistance

Reject changing own/corporate behavior to local standards or expectations.

Acceptance

Accept a local aspect/procedure/observance without changing own behavior.

Adaptation

Change own/corporate behavior to local standards/expectations.

6. EPRG — strategic dispositions

Bốn định hướng chiến lược cơ bản: Ethnocentric, Polycentric, Regiocentric, Geocentric.

7. Standardize or adapt?

Đây không phải là công tắc nhị phân: global localization kết hợp cả hai.

Standardization ↔ Adaptation continuum

Globalization / StandardizationGlobal localizationAdaptation
Legal considerations

Product changes may respond to legal rules, often involving safety/health protection.

Cultural considerations

Preferences, language, customs and meanings can require modification.

Economic considerations

Personal incomes and infrastructure affect product demand.

Global localization

Mix standardization and customization to minimize costs while maximizing satisfaction — “think globally, act locally.”

Advice for managers in cross-cultural management

  • Recognize own ethnocentric perspective on management.
  • Interest in deepening cross-cultural understanding.
  • Recognize cultural shock and strategies to deal with it.
  • Detect/prevent/mediate cross-cultural conflict.
  • Remain open to new ideas, management processes, preferences and values.
